There is a happy news for all who were waiting for the software unlock for the iphone 3G.Finally in the first day of 2009 iphone-dev team released the
software unlock for apple iphone. The unlock requires no flashing . It is just a software named ‘yellowsn0w’ , which will reside in the memory and gives the
unlock .
Here are the stpes needed:
1 . Iphone 3G unlock works with only firmware version 2.2
2 . Download 2.2 version for your iphone 3g from link below
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-5778.20081120.Aqw4R/iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw
3. next step is Jail breaking. Use quickpwn or pwnage tool.
4 .when your iphone is turned On after the jailbreaking , open cydia
and add the following resource
RELEASE INFO
* Cydia source: apt9.yellowsn0w.com/
* Installer repo: i.yellowsn0w.com/
5 . then install yellowsn0w from cydia .
6 . restart your iphone and insert new SIM . Well done , you unlocked your iphone 3G
Important note

Please try out this :
1. Download and install BossPrefs and Yellowsn0w via Cydia
2. Disable all Functions with BossPrefs (don´t worry if you can´t disable EDGE)
3. Reboot ypur Phone with BossPrefs (not in the normally way - important !)
4. Wait 1.30 min when you see the Lockscreen
5. Take out your Sim and insert it.
6. Wait a moment
7. Go on Settings and Turn on the fly mode
8. Turn off Fly Mode
